Rebecca Jean
Rebecca Jean is an illustrator who is currently studying at Savannah College of Art and Design to get her BFA in Illustration. Rebecca was born and raised in Miami, Florida and was always known for being artistic throughout her childhood. She was highly active and loved to learn new things as a child; however, she was subsequently diagnosed with a sleeping disorder during her early teen that changed her whole life, except for one thing, her artistic ability. So, for years people would always ask Rebecca, “are you going to be an artist when you grow up?” Back then, she did not really know the answer, but deep-down Rebecca knew that she was an artist. She just needed time to realize that this was her career path. Rebecca is now fulfilling her dream to become an artist and is improving her skills every day; while also receiving some knowledge in Graphic Design and Typography, that has been extremely useful in her work as an Illustrator.
As an artist, I want to create fun and whimsical illustrations that is both vivid and calming to the viewers. Each new piece I make is usually a reflection of myself because, my work is quite simple; however, there is a lot going on. My style focuses primarily on making clean line weight and lighting. Sometimes, I like to also incorporate hand lettering and calligraphy to my work. It is crazy to say, but the thing that changed my life, that now influences my work, and is a source for all my inspiration is my sleep disorder. I like to reference it in my work using topics such as time, space, dreams, crystals, the moon, and stars, as well as subjects like astrology and witchcraft. Even my color pallet, that’s made up of cool and neutral colors, is also inspired by it.
